Lemon law introduction

Lemon laws were introduced primarily to protect the
consumer from unscrupulous dealers who would sell off
any old rubbish and claim that the item was fit for
use.

Unfortunately, many cars sold today have been
repaired or restructured and have a somewhat dubious
history.

For example, did you know that there are dealers out
there that will take two similar cars which have been
damaged – one front end and one back end – and
literally weld the two halves together to make one
car?

In the trade this is called a ‘cut and shut’ and
is highly dangerous. The car can virtually fall apart
when involved in even the slightest impact.

The lemon law also forces manufacturers to buy back
any cars deemed to be in the lemon category. Although
there is a common law to all states, most have
different interpretations of this law. Check it out
before you part with your hard earned cash.

Also be aware that any used car has a history. Finding
this history is not always easy especially if the car
has been shipped out of state or out of the country.

Make sure the engine and chassis number match up with
the paper work and try your best to check if the
vehicle was ever involved in an accident.

Remember, these laws were introduced to protect you,
the consumer. If you can arm yourself with a little of
this knowledge, you will be protecting yourself from
untold misery. After all, life is too short to spend
it in the hospital or courtroom!

Auto Leasing Scams

Car-leasing has been lauded as a more attractive alternative to buying,
offering in the process the flexibility to drive a new car for less. The
reality, however, is that leasing is an option that is fraught with many
pitfalls for the average customer. Leasing regulation does not require as
much disclosure as buying a vehicle. This has given rise to many leasing
scams that trick the customer into believing they are into a good deal
when, in effect, all he is getting is a rough deal on the dealer’s terms.

Here we look at some of these common scams and how to avoid them

Artificially low interest rates:

Some dealers quote a lower interest rate when in reality it’s much
higher. They do this by either purposefully quoting the money factor as
the interest rate or calculating the loan without amortizing some closing
fees, like the security deposit, into the loan lease. Take the money
factor for example: this is typically expressed as a four decimal digit,
something like 0.004. Some dealers quote this as a 4% interest rate when
in fact you need to multiply it by 24 to get a rough idea of the interest
rate on your loan. In this example, the interest rate is a much higher 9.6%
than the “quoted” rate of 4%.
Make sure you crunch the numbers and understand the formula they use to
calculate their interest rate. Look out for any fees not factored into the
calculation. If you are not satisfied, do not enter into the lease
agreement.

Terminate your lease early for a low penalty

This is an all-time leasing scam. You ask your dealer how much you will pay
if you want to terminate your lease and he tells you: “You want to get out
early? Sure thing, you only pay an early termination fee of $300″. What he
is quoting is only the small administrative penalty of early termination,
there is a much stiffer penalty called early termination fee and this runs
into thousands of dollars.
Do not confuse the early termination administrative penalty with the
termination fee. Read the small print carefully and know exactly how much
you will get charged should you terminate your lease before its scheduled
end.

Pay for an extended warranty you don’t need

This is another shell game to inflate the dealer’s profit at your expense.
The dealer slides an extended-warranty into the deal whilst it’s already
factored into the monthly payments, or he tricks you into buying a 36-month
warranty on a 24-month lease.
You do not have to pay extra money for a warranty already built into your
payments or for one that goes well beyond your lease term.
They might slip an extended warranty in. Don’t be fooled, the warranty is
already factored in.

No security deposit

Any dealer who advertises a $0 security deposit is not telling you the
whole story. A security deposit is always factored in the lease under the
provision for disposition fees.

Evolving Technology and Auto Sound Systems

Finding auto sound systems that can keep up with the constantly evolving technology of today is a real challenge for many car and sound enthusiasts not only around the nation but also around the world. There was a time in the not so distant past when car stereos that had CD players or CD disc changers where the cutting edge of technology. New technology however has nearly rendered the CD players in cars as obsolete as long forgotten 8-track players. The sad news is that many carmakers are clinging to the old days and only offer something as modern as cassette players as standard equipment for auto sound systems.

I think those days will soon be forgotten, as cassettes are no longer even in mainstream production. You should also find that as CDs are rapidly becoming replaced by MP3s that take up very little space in our cars and homes, one day very soon we may see that music companies have decided it is no longer cost effective to produce CDs and render all music to digital formats. So, what does this mean for auto sound systems? It’s actually good news for savvy manufacturers are well as savvy consumers who have their eyes on the future and the growing role technology is playing in our lives and as well as our commute to work.

We’ve seen a recent introduction of satellite radio to our selection of auto sound systems. These stations offer the allure of no commercial interruptions to your music play in exchange for the price of a monthly subscription. At the moment there are two major companies that offer this service to consumers and each have rather proprietary equipment for their use and installation into your car. They are actually offering some rather tempting offers in order to encourage subscribers. Among those wonderful offers are auto sound systems for your vehicle at less than $100 with a prepaid year of subscription services.

For the satellite radio companies this indicates a constantly growing pool of prospective subscribers and the cost of the equipment is a drop in the bucket when compared to customer loyalty and being on the cutting edge of sound technology. The drawback is that you must decide which service you wish to go with before making the purchase. Also while they offer a very nice auto sound system (bare bones kind of kit that only allows for the radio reception in most cases) at a very sweet price, if you want upgrades such as MP3 compatibility, CD players, CD changers, DVD players, GPS, or any number of other new and advanced technology you will still have to purchase those for your sound system at an upgraded price. There are a few packages that come with these things, but the price is a little on the hefty side. Oh the sacrifices we will make for a more enjoyable daily commute.

Know what your expectations are before you decide to purchase the auto sound system of your dream or you could find that it is more the stuff that nightmares are made of than sweet dreams. Do not live in constant fear that if you buy today you will find something you like better 6 months from now, that is a reality. Technology is growing and evolving at a frightening pace. Find the auto sound system that you like best today and make that your purchase. This is a much better option than waiting around indefinitely and purchasing one just as your warranty expires on your car and it’s time for a trade in and another auto sound system.

Porsche vs Ferrari

Porsche and Ferrari are German and Italian sides of the same
coin, interpretations of the sports car idea. Both founded by a
dominant patriarch, both honed in racing, both more than 50
years old, both with engineering and styling integrity. Whether on
the track of Le Mains or on the streets, the two have always been
put head-to-head and compared. Even the most naive motorist
associates these two names with both performance and style.

We’ve decided to compare the methodical Porsche 911 Carrera
4S and the passionate Ferrari F430 because both of them astonish
with their performance while attempting to maintain a reasonable
amount of practicality but do not pretend to be anything other than
sports cars.

A modern sports car should feature these characteristics: it should be
started easily, maneuvered around town, blasted on a couple of
country roads, it looks and performs the part on a racetrack but at the
same time it is very safe.

The easier way to separate the two cars is by measuring figures since
both of them have mastered the modern sports car requirements and
basically there’s no other way to choose between these two phenomenal
cars.

What initially impresses is Ferrari’s lightning fast 4-second 0-100km/h
acceleration and thrilling exhaust tone. As the occupants are pinned to
the seats, the new generation 4.3-litre V8 pushes out 368 snarling
kilowatts. Porsche’s acceleration also offers that kick in the pants a
super car should deliver, although it is 0.8 seconds slower at the 100 km/k
mark.

With such acceleration performance, it comes natural for both cars to
excel in the braking department. The two cars offer optional ceramic
discs for impressive stopping.

Porsche’s engine gets the upper hand as it is more refined and on
the economy rank leaps ahead Ferrari with a 11.8 liters per 100 km
as opposed to 18.3 liters. Both cars deliver the power through impressive
6-speed gearboxes and offer top rate handling performance.

Both F430 and Carrera4S offer great interior comfort and even if the
space is limited, the occupants don’t feel claustrophobic and flustered.
Although an impressive mix of suede, carbon fiber and aluminum abound
in the Ferrari, the Italians stand no chance when it comes to the high finish
level attained by the Germans.

Speed and silence are key elements for any super car. The look and
appearance is the biggest draw card. The Carrera 4S is a typical Porsche,
despite the new proportions. It is a great looking car, like any other 911 but
somehow the styling no longer creates the jaw dropping reaction that the
Ferrari does. Indeed, traditionalists may say that Porsche pays homage to
its roots, but the truth is that Ferrari F430 simply draws the attention.

However, even if Ferrari F430 takes your breath away with its appearance,
the super car title goes to the Porsche Carrera 4S with a more complete all
round package.

Hybrid Cars The Pros And Cons Of Hybrid Vehicles

Have you ever taken a look at the recent gasoline
prices lately? If you have and you didn’t really take
much notice of it, then you may either be very rich or
you are clueless. Gasoline prices today are
ridiculously high and are continuing to rise. It’s
going to be quite a while before we see the prices
improve. Combine this with a poorly performing economy
it’s really no surprise why people are now using all
methods to save money on gasoline, such as hypermiling
and car pooling as well as buying hybrid cars.

So, just what are hybrid cars?

Hybrid cars are basically vehicles with two engines.
The first engine is your conventional gasoline engine
and the second engine is an electric motor. By
combining these two engines, you will be able to save
money on gasoline and get better gasoline mileage for
your car.

How?

Basically, hybrid cars run like your average vehicle.
However, whenever hybrid cars are on running idle or
are in running in stationary position, the onboard
computer will shut down the gasoline engine and leave
the car running on the electric engine. This means
that the car will still be running but will not
consume any gasoline. You have to consider that
millions of dollars are wasted everyday on gasoline
because of a car running idle.

Another advantage is that the government is providing
huge tax breaks for people who own hybrid cars. So, if
you own a hybrid vehicle, you will not only save a lot
of money on gasoline, but you will also enjoy huge tax
breaks provided by the government.

By owning a hybrid vehicle, you will also contribute
to a cleaner environment. Because hybrid vehicles
don’t burn a lot of gasoline or fuel, you will be able
to reduce the overall amount of toxic fumes emitted by
the car. In fact, some hybrid models available today
reduce tailpipe emissions by up to 90 percent and 50
percent on greenhouse gas emissions.

However, there are some cons on hybrid cars.

The first is that it cost a lot more than conventional
vehicles. However, you have to consider that the
hybrid technology is relatively new. On average, you
will be paying 5 to 6 thousand dollars more for a
hybrid car. You are actually paying for the
technology. But, when you think about it in the long
run, you will see that it is well worth the cost. In
fact, hybrid cars are cheaper than conventional
vehicles in the long run.

Another disadvantage is that because the hybrid
vehicles are equipped with batteries that contain high
voltage it is very difficult for rescuers to provide
assistance to people trapped inside the car because of
possible electrocution for both the passenger and the
rescuer in cases of vehicular accidents.

These are some of the pros and cons of hybrid
vehicles. Although there may be some disadvantages
that comes with owning a hybrid vehicle, you have to
consider the fact that scientists and researchers are
developing ways to make the hybrid technology cheaper
as well as safer for everyone.

You have to remember that hybrid cars are still on its
infancy. In the future, it is very much possible that
we will be able to see cheaper and safer hybrid cars
that everyone will be able to afford.

Car Rental Insurance

In most of the states of the country, the rental
companies can not refuse to rent a car if the
consumers do not purchase insurance.

However, many companies try to charge an insurance
amount from the clients. This coverage is optional.
One may not feel the need for a separate insurance
cover due to other insurance policies, like the car or
life insurance.

The insurance coverage that companies try to sell is
of four types- collision damage waiver, personal
accident insurance, personal effect coverage and
supplemental liability protection.

It is the need of the hour to have an insurance policy
for the rented car. One may be trying to save on auto
insurance and may not want to pay for the coverage.

However, insurance on rented cars is quite important.
The most important reason of having insurance on a
rented car is to reduce the accumulated cost and time
with regard to the rented car. In case of breakdown,
you might take it to a body shop for repairs and
higher quality maintenance.

This process may turn out to be extremely time
consuming and may cause a lot of inconvenience. The
process of car repairing takes sometime as one can’t
predict the damage, just by looking at the car
externally.

All these issues can be addressed, if one has an
insurance cover that allows one to have a complete
replacement if the car is damaged beyond repair.

In case of opting in for insurance, the rental
companies provide coverage for any damage occurred or
inefficiency encountered.

A Good Auto Sound System is a Requirement not a Luxury

How do you decide which auto sound system is best for you? This is a question that many consumers ask in the U. S. each and every day. The truth is that only you can decide what kind of sound you find enjoyable and what you are seeking in the sound system you will ultimately purchase. A good sound system will greatly improve how you feel about not only the vehicle you drive but also your disposition after your daily commute. It may seem like such a small thing, the changing of a sound system, but it does seem to have such a profound impact on how we start our days. Of course we all know that getting your day off to a good start sets the tone for the entire day and if that day is Monday it sets the tone for not only the day ahead but also the week to come.

Music affects almost every aspect of our lives. Most of us do not realize the impact that music has on our day-to-day lives and it is quite difficult because our world seems to be filled with it. It is much easier however, to explain the difference a good sound system makes. It’s funny, I find myself in a hurry to get out of stores that have lousy sound systems and speakers that dribble out little more than static while I can shop for hours in a store that has tasteful music playing in the background over a good sound system. I prefer the volume lower and the music playing in the background rather than being the center of my attention.

Most of us find that soft music playing in the background is rather unobtrusive and allows us to get along with our thoughts and the mission at hand while loud music blaring over antiquated speakers does a great deal to disrupt our thought processes which will only serve to send us along to the next errand on our list. If you’ll notice it seems that clerks in the stores where the loud music blares along are often not as even tempered as those in stores that play music at respectful volumes and have very well kept sound systems. I think I would be cranky too after listening to music in a manner that music wasn’t meant to be heard.

I’m not a music snob by any means; I simply enjoy listening to music for the sake of actually hearing the music. Loud music is good sometimes but not when I have other things on my mind. I prefer that music remain in the background when I’m running about taking care of errands, even in the car. The hallmark of a good auto sound system is that it sounds good even at low volumes. This means you can enjoy music in the background, hum along, or simply ignore the music in favor of the action taking place on the road.

The point I’m trying to make is that even though you may not realize the impact that a good auto sound system has on music immediately, you will definitely feel the difference it makes over time. The better the sound system, the better the sound and music is after all, sound.

If you are a true lover of music and spend a great deal of your week or even any given day in your vehicle, doesn’t it make sense to invest heavily in your auto sound system? I know for me that particular decision is a no brainer. I love music and it is an important part of not only my life but also the lives of my children. As a result we spend a lot of time listening to the radio in our SUV and singing along. Even when we aren’t listening to music, I enjoy listening talk radio and the news on NPR. These things are an important part of my day and I really enjoy all that each and every one adds to my life. Because of that, I find my investment in a good auto sound system to be a requirement rather than a luxury.

Auto Navigation Devices Offer Many Installation Options

Auto navigation systems are offering many options to a growing number of consumers each and every year. From systems that are factory installed into automobiles by the automakers themselves to those that simply plug into the car’s battery adapter to use on the go and take along with you, there is a little something for every type of consumer when it comes to these nifty devices and systems. Even those who don’t limit their travels to automobiles can find a device that would work for them as well. There are even devices that are made with water travel in mind and famous for their endurance of less than optimal weather conditions.

While you are not limited to auto navigation systems in order to find your way, they do make being lost a lot easier to handle. In fact, you are never truly lost if you have a reliable auto navigation system. These systems are designed to help you navigate back roads, country roads, city roads, main streets, and out of the way high ways like a pro and they deliver on their promise for the most part.

There are a few glitches just as there are with road maps, the major difference between a common atlas and these navigational devices is that they have up to date information that is quite reliable in most instances (unless there are unannounced road closings and such) and you are limited to the data at the time an atlas or road map was printed when relying on those for directions and navigational input. Additionally you are limited to the combined map reading skills of those in the vehicle. Map reading is a lost art for many and is becoming less and less emphasized as a growing number of people are turning to navigational devices for direction and guidance.

For aesthetic reasons, many consumers opt for auto navigation systems that are installed by the automobile manufacturers. These systems come at a premium price but offer a seamless integration to the interior of the car. This of course makes perfect sense as those devices were literally made for the cars. In the long run it is quite likely that you will pay the most for these devices. Not only are you paying a higher price for the device initially but you are also paying for the service of installing them and the interest on both of those fees. It is a completely personal decision as to whether or not this is the option that is best for you.

Many savvy consumers have discovered that they can have these systems installed in their automobiles by professionals without paying the hefty price tag that comes with interest when purchasing a system and installation along with the vehicle. If you choose the right people to install your navigation system you will find that you save money and have a system that appears natural within the interior of your automobile. You can have the best of both worlds when it comes to auto navigation systems. You do not have to sacrifice your budget in order to get a nice quality system that looks great in your automobile.

For those who are seriously limited on funds but have a real need for the security that an auto navigation system affords there are still many options that might very well fit your needs from a navigation system. You can purchase installation kits and make the installation yourself. This alone could literally save a few hundred dollars on the system. There are also installation kits that include the device at very reasonable rates. Keep in mind that some of the lower priced systems may require a monthly fee for the service. However, many people that cannot afford a large amount of money up front for the system might very well be able to put $20-$50 per month towards the service.

The truth of the matter is that as competition grows among makers of auto navigation systems so do the options available to consumers. Along with growing competition we also see falling prices. It’s a great time to be a consumer when it comes to auto navigational devices.

Diesel Fuel

If you have been keeping a close eye on fuel prices lately you will notice that diesel fuel is still a better deal. Only certain vehicles are set up to operate on this type of fuel though. Of course many people choose to buy a pickup that operates on diesel fuel just so they can save some money in the long run of things. It is definitely something to think about with our economy in the shape that it is in. Semi trucks and many other types of equipment vehicles also operate on diesel fuel.

Most vehicles that do operate with diesel fuel get better gas mileage than other types of vehicles though. They also allow the engine to run cleaner and that often means that the vehicle is going to last much longer. You won’t have as much wear and tear in the engine so your vehicle could last five or ten years longer than if you aren’t using diesel fuel.

Research shows that diesel fuel burns much cleaner as well so there is less emissions being released into the environment. With the millions of vehicles on the road these days it is something to really think about. Offering more vehicles that operate on diesel fuel means that the air can be better to breath for everyone. Yet there does seem to be more sulphur in diesel fuel which isn’t good for the environment.

Most gas stations do offer diesel fuel as well as regular and unleaded. This is very convenient as it means you can get your fuel for a diesel vehicle just about anywhere that sales fuel. About 50 billon gallons of diesel fuel are consumed annually in the United States. This number is expected to double in the next 20 years.

Some individuals have been experimenting with synthetic diesel fuel as well. As strange as it may seem this type of diesel fuel is made from sewage remains, food scraps, and even used vegetable oil. There is a process that it is put through in order to make it into a form that can be used for vehicles. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the use of synthetic diesel fuel.
