Critical Issues to Know About School Bus Safety

It’s that time of year.  Schools are opening, and children are traveling on school buses again. Over and over, students will hear the same admonitions: “stay seated and talk quietly during your bus ride”, “don’t stand or play in the aisle”, “follow the bus driver’s instructions”, and “don’t throw things in the bus or out the window”. These are all important rules of safety and civility that parents should discuss with their children. This year, however, you should consider spending extra time talking about those safety rules that are most likely to save your child’s life.

What is the most serious danger facing children who take a bus to school every day?  It’s being struck by a motor vehicle, whether they are waiting at the bus stop, getting on and off the bus, or walking away from the bus after they get off.  This danger isn’t simply limited to cars, trucks or motorcycles, a school bus can strike and kill a child just as easily.

When you talk about these safety issues with your child, start the discussion at home but continue the conversation at the bus stop. You need to assess the relative dangers your child will confront at his bus stop.  You must ask yourself a number of questions about the location of the bus stop and the times of pick-up and drop-off. For instance, will your child be standing on a sidewalk in a well lit and safe area of your city or will your child be standing at the end of a dark, gravel driveway on a country road? In the fall and winter, will your child be picked up at dawn, dusk, or when it’s dark?  Will your child be picked up at a bus stop that is on a long, straight street, or at a bus stop near a curve in the road?  Is the bus stop located on a busy street that lots of trucks and buses occupy or on a quiet street that ends in a cul-de-sac?

What are some of the critical issues to keep in mind?

Visibility.  You don’t want your child to stand close to the road itself because this will put him in a danger zone. Regardless where he stands, however, it is always a good idea for any child standing or walking near a road to wear clothing that makes it easy for passing motorists to see him. Bright yellow, orange, and white clothes are helpful.  If your child stands at a bus stop early in the morning or late in the day, he should wear clothing made with at least some reflective material, be it a jacket with reflective stripes or shoes, book bags, and hats with reflective tape. The headlights of a vehicle will pick up reflective clothing and gear from as far away as 500 feet.

Your child must stand in one safe place you designate for him, and wait quietly for the bus. After looking carefully at your child’s particular bus stop, you must decide where it is safest for him to stand and wait for the bus. Usually, this will be about ten feet away from the road and the bus stop.  In most school districts, the same bus driver will pick up your child every day.  Talk to the driver and tell him where you would like your child to stand and wait.  This way he will know where to look for your child when he approaches the bus stop.  He can also share with you his experience and give you advice about the safest places children can wait for school buses.

Danger Zones.  Your child is entering a danger zone when he approaches within ten feet of a school bus, from any direction.

Your child should stand back and allow the bus to come to a full stop, the door to open, and the driver to give the “OK” before he moves to step onto the bus.

Like trucks and cars, a school bus has blind spots or no zones where it is difficult for the driver to see vehicles or pedestrians approaching. A student should never walk behind a school bus for any reason and certainly should not cross the street there. The bus driver may back up suddenly.

Crossing the street is always dangerous, and a child should cross the street in front of the school bus. Immediately after descending from the bus, he should turn left, walk straight for at least ten to fifteen feet, and then make eye contact with the driver before he starts to cross the street in front of the school bus.  Your child needs to understand that if he cannot see the bus driver, from his vantage point, the driver probably can’t see him.  Most bus drivers will give your child a signal to begin crossing the street. Make sure your child knows to wait for this signal.

As he crosses the street, your child should look right for traffic approaching from the opposite direction, but he also needs to look left to make sure the school bus does not start to move forward while he crosses directly in front of it.

Motorists do disobey the law. Occasionally they pass a school bus on the left after the bus has turned on its flashing red lights and has stopped.  Teach your child to look left just before he steps beyond the front of the school bus.  Also, remind him that, although it only happens rarely, a motorist may pass the school bus on the right.  Your child needs to take a look to his right, just before he steps off the school bus, to make sure the way is clear.

If your child has to walk to the bus stop on a roadway or shoulder where there is no sidewalk, he should always walk facing traffic.

If you meet your child at the bus stop, wait for him on the same side of the street as the bus stop, not across the street.  As he gets off the bus, your child may be distracted when he sees you, and he may fail to watch for traffic as he crosses the street.

Explain to your child that he should never bend down near or under a school bus to pick up something. The driver may lose sight of him and start moving forward.

After you have asked yourself these questions – and others that occur to you when you stand at your child’s bus stop and observe the surroundings – do the following.  Make a list of the specific dangers your child may face. Consider what actions your child can take to avoid the dangerous situations you have listed. Review the action plan with your child.  Wait with him at the bus stop for at least the first few days to ensure he has understood your instructions (assuming your child is old enough to stand alone at a bus stop in the first place).  Check on him every so often thereafter to make sure he continues to follow the rules you’ve established. Review with your child his school’s bus safety and behavior policy. Stress the importance of these rules and let your child know that you support, without reservation, his school’s safety regulations. However, the most important lesson you can teach your child is that he is the one who is ultimately responsible for his own safety.  This is his job, and he cannot always count on someone else to look out for him.

How to Go About Getting Car Stereo Wholesale Discounts

Many wholesale stores offer car stereo wholesale discounts. Many of these stores are online stores and they make sure that car audio like car stereos are affordable to dealers. Many car stereo wholesale stores that offer discounts sell themselves in the best possible way. One such company is the MMXPress. They insist that their prices are affordable and even though not always cheap, they offer value and quality to any dealer. They are legal and strive to keep the competition of prices with other stores. They discourage customers from being sucked up by relatively new stores who have no experience in dealing with discounts. They are not authorized dealers for all brands but they have a warranty for everything they sell. They say their honesty has been reflected over the years.

There are several important things about car stereo wholesale discounts that you, the consumer or dealer should take into consideration. Firstly, the wholesale store should be a legal entity. If wholesalers have nothing to hide, they should not find it hard to become licensed. There is also something unstable about such dealers. You want to obtain your goods in confidence and in the right way, this will ensure that you are protected. The wholesaler needs to be honest. There are many stores that list certain products as in stock while the products are actually not available. Truthfulness brings transparency and customers need transparent wholesalers in oder to conduct their business. If a company is not honest, how can you be attracted to their discounts without questioning on the catch.

Wholesales that offer car stereo wholesale discounts should be reliable. Reliability comes with a good name. If they have some experience in the business, their reliability will be reflected easily. You need to know that your orders are shipped at the right and agreed times. The store needs to offer the right stereos that you need. Mostly, if a company is reputable, they will have a variety of stock because they are trusted to handle them. They need to offer a variety of brands and their discounts need to be appealing. Appealing discounts are those that aim to cut the cost to reasonable rates. Some discounts can be too low to consider and they might not save the kind of money you expect.

Their terms and conditions must also be very clear to you. The company policies are very important even as you think of car stereo wholesale discounts. Let there be no strings attached to discounts, courtesy of company policies. Another important thing is that the staff of the wholesale store must have the right knowledge required to direct you into making purchases on discounts. Some people think that certain discounts are a favor to the buyer. The stores need customers to buy with a discount attached so without you, they do not make their target sales. Their customer service must be inviting and friendly. When you consider all this things, have fun when choosing a car stereo on discount. Dealers buy the products that will best be loved by the customers. Car stereos are no longer out of reach, they are affordable and available to everyone.

Indeshaw Adenaw about road rage and how to avoid it

Road rage is a dangerous and potentially crippling characteristic.  Anyone who has been behind the wheel of a car knows how frustrating it can be on the road.  That frustration does not mean you can do much about it.  It is commonly accepted that not everyone is a good driver.  So what do you do?  How do you road rage?  The first step is knowing what the causes of road rage are, beyond the guy cutting you off.  It is easy to blame road rage on others, that guy cut me off, she ran a red light, they cannot drive.  Yes, that is a very simple task, however road rage, for the most part, is interior.

What defines road rage?  Road rage is a term that defines violent behavior on the road.  A very simple definition, but a lot of actions can fall into this definition.  Some specific actions include weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off, throwing objects at other cars, flashing lights, and of course yelling obscenities.  So what causes this behavior?  Why can some people remain perfectly calm while others get enraged?  Some experts point towards a mental disorder called Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED).  This disorder, as the name implies occurs when a person has outbursts at odd times, such as stress, or behind the wheel.

Regardless of what the term is called it can be very damaging.  Road rage in others is more of a matter of opinion than anything.  Sometimes the IED can cause disproportional reactions to the actions.  Unfortunately, it is hard to gauge what will set some people off.  The road can be a dangerous place when people lose their temper behind a wheel.  Even if the disorder is not to blame, people let their emotions get the best of them, and bad things can happen.  This is especially true if you add two vehicles that can weigh a ton each.

Knowing the causes may seem kind of bleak.  How do you stop someone who loses their temper on the road.  Or worse, how do you stop someone in road rage when you are not sure what you have done to be the victim?  The answer is not comforting if you find yourself in the situation.  There are two ways to deal with the situation, reactive and preemptive.  The reactive deals with reacting to someone in road rage, the preemptive deals with preventing the road rage from ever occurring.

If you find yourself as a victim, call the police right away.  Tell them that you have someone in the grips of road rage.  They will be able to guide you on the road.  Slow down, let the person get ahead of you and hopefully go on.  Slowing down does not mean you should stop.  If the person pulls over, keep going, do not confront the people outside of the vehicle.  As far as preemptive, be kind and courteous to everyone on the road.  Always use signals and try to communicate your intentions to everyone.  With this knowledge you can be safer on the streets, happy driving.

Everything You Need to Know About Painting Your Home

The first step in a quality exterior painting job, or in any painting project for that matter, is start with a clean surface. This means that you will need to power wash. You probably will need to rent a power washer – something you can do at any major hardware or tool rental store. You will need a ladder to power wash, depending on the height of your home you will need either an extension or step ladder. (or both)…you can rent a power washer for about $100 a day. You can rent ladders for about $40 a week.

Once you have all of this equipment, you should power wash every surface that you plan to paint, making sure to use proper technique so as not to leave wand marks due to the extreme water pressure. It is good to use a watered down mixture of bleach and sodium tri-phosphate to kill and prevent mildew and mold and to wash away chalking. Often people ask, what is chalking? This is the chalk-like substance that sticks to your hand when you touch the unwashed parts of your home and is most often present on homes that have not been painted in awhile. Chalking is always the color of the paint job and is the result of paint properties breaking down from sunlight.

To repeat: One of the most important steps in painting is to clean the working surface; otherwise, paint cannot stick to the dirty surface and will peel within a year. You can hire a professional painter or power washing contractor to wash a home usually for under $200.

Always be safe on ladders and roofs, it is very easy for anyone to slip and fall. When power washing, there is no need to get right up close to the surface, usually eight feet away, or so, is fine. Finally, it is very important to allow the surface to completely dry off. Allow at least a day for the washed area to try, longer if there is rain or high humidity.

Once you have allowed the paint surface to dry you can begin preparing the work surface to receive paint. First you need to caulk. It is important to use only silicon latex caulk. It must have latex in it and say “paintable” on tube. Buy color caulk to match your paint color if you plan on only doing one coat of paint, but white colored caulk should be fine if you are planning on two coats of paint and is usually cheaper per tube than colored caulk. Make sure to caulk all gaps in the wood and joints. Do not caulk wood to stucco.

The next step in prepping your painting surface is to scrape, removing all of the loose and failing paint — down to the bare wood if possible. You should then tape and lay down tarps in the area where you are standing to paint first, and then put a coat of primer on all of the surfaces you plan to paint. Primer color should be chosen according to what color you are painting (it is not always recommended to use white for darker colors). Make sure to cover everything but landscape bushes and plants. Putting tarps on bushes and plants can actually kill them due to the tarps’ weight and the heat trapped around the plants, under the tarps.

Set up is the next part of the job, though may already have done this before you even started your prep work. Once you have your paint color picked out, you will need to measure how many square feet of surface you will be painting. Once you have figured out how many square feet there are to paint, divide that number by three hundred; that is around how many gallons of paint you will need for the first coat.

It is best to stick with a national paint store brand. One tip is to try not to go to the paint store on the weekends; they are always packed on the weekend with other do-it-yourselfers. If you go in the evening or in the day, during the week, they will likely have more time for a one-on-one consultation. It is usually best to ask for the store manager, he will have more experience and be able lead you the right direction, as far as what kind of paint and primer you should get, and also help you with color, if you need it.

Tools You Will Need To Paint Your Home:

* Scraper
* Case of caulk (you can return unused tubes)
* Caulking gun
* Masking tape
* Cheap tarps
* Your paint
* An extra empty 5 gallon bucket with lid (usually $5 or free if you ask nicely)
* A bucket grid
* A 9 inch roller frame
* A roller nap
* A brush (2.5 inch sash is best for beginners)
* A bucket hook (for hooking your paint pal to the ladder)

When purchasing your paint, buy the amount you determined from your square footage, minus about three gallons. You will always need to go back to the paint store, so don’t overbuy. Once you purchase tinted paint it is non-returnable and good paint costs about $30 per gallon for do-it-yourself pricing
Always start at the top left and work your way to the right. Painting in direct sunlight makes things more difficult when you are doing the work by yourself because it dries more quickly and, of course, is hot and bright.

If you are painting a home with siding, make sure to paint each siding slat all of the way across, then start back at the left on the next slat, like writing a line of text. This is a lot of work, but it allows for minor differences in paint color from can to can (which, though it is not supposed to happen, does). In the end, though it makes the job more difficult, it will give you a more even looking color because the divisions in the slats will hid any minor color differences.

Try not to overlap a wet edge of paint over a dry edge, this is called flashing, and it leaves overlap marks once everything is dry. This will happen especially with only one coat applications. This is the most common error made by do-it-yourselfers. Remember, two coats are always best! Not only do two coats look a lot better, but the paint will last twice as long.

Your dry time will vary, taking into account weather and humidity. Usually, two to four hours after applying the paint, your house will be dry to the touch and your second coat can be applied. On hot, dry days, the drying time is even shorter.

A Note About Spraying -

A professional can spray a perfect finish, which fills cracks and holes; it also has a nice even coat. You, however, probably cannot. Spray painting a house is much tougher than it may seem and requires extensive training and experience to apply properly. To rent a sprayer, it cost about $80 per day. The advantage of using a sprayer is that it will speed up your painting time by at least four times. If you choose to spray, you’ll need to watch out for overspray; you do not want to accidentally spray your roof, cars or neighbors. It is also not recommend to buy the cheaper consumer paint sprayers at your local hardware. It is best to rent the professional model.

Spraying is best for painting big areas on your house like aluminum siding, wood siding, stucco, and so on. It is not for trim areas like your eaves and fascia, doors, frames, or garage doors. Only a professional can do this. Stick with a roller and brush for your trim areas…it will save you time, reduce headaches and you have less risk of overspray damage.

So How Much Can I Save by Painting Myself?

You will save about 65% of a professionals painting quote if you do it yourself. However, studies have shown it will take an average homeowner as much as six times longer than a professional. They already have the tools, equipment, and experience. Professionals are also better trained at managing paint and other resources, so they can be far more efficient and require less paint.

Ask yourself these two questions as you weigh the pros and cons:

* Do you want your evenings and weekends to be spent painting you home?
* Is it worth the savings to you?

Safety -

People fall of roofs and ladders every day. Is your home higher than two stories? Don’t paint that section; it’s not worth it. Falling more than 16 feet can be lethal. Hire professionals to paint the higher sections of your home. However, people are often surprised by how much they DO NOT SAVE when they choose to paint the lower section themselves. You should be able to get a quote for entire house painting and just second story painting, in order to budget for this.
Most falls occur when ladders are on a road or a slicker surface like a driveway, patio, or concrete walkway. Make sure you tie down your ladder, that way it cannot kick out from underneath you and you can paint in relative safety.

The Final Product -

Often homeowners are happy with their final product. Others are not and they end up hiring a professional to finish the project. Usually, if you are looking to sell your home in the near future, a do-it-yourself paint job will be critiqued by a potential buyer or realtor. But there is satisfaction and savings in painting your home by yourself, when done properly.

The Real Truth About Search Engine Optimization(seo) Scams

Visitors coming from inquiries made on search engines is a highly sought after source of quality traffic, especially for Internet marketers. This type of traffic is often more profitable then most other sources because they are searching for what you are selling. Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is the art of fine tuning one’s website to increase the chances of ranking better in the search engines. There are many SEO companies claiming to give you the edge by promising a top ranking in the search indexes. Before you hand over any money, you have to know the real truths about the claims these companies are making about SEO. Here is some important information that will help you avoid SEO scams and hype.

Beware of companies that promise you a top ranking in the search engines. These companies could get your website listed fairly high in the search engines, but only for very obscure keywords that nobody ever searches for. Some of these SEO sites are outright scams that will take your money and disappear. Ranking well in search engines for the keywords that will bring you traffic takes the right amount of time and effort. You simply cannot buy your way to the top…especially not in the small time frame that these questionable companies promise.

Don’t waste your money on those sites that will submit your URL to thousands of search engines. It may sound appealing just thinking about how much traffic you can get from all of these engines. In reality, a majority of those search engine sites are tiny and get very little visitors using them. It’s important to realize that most of the searches done online will originate from Google, Yahoo and MSN alone. IF you don’t see your favorite amongst these top three engines, then there’s a good chance it may be powered by one of them. AOL, for example, uses Google’s index to provide search results to their users. A lot of other well known search engines utilize the indexes of these three popular companies. All you really need to do is to submit your URL to Google, Yahoo and MSN…and it’s free to do it manually.

Ranking well in the search engines is something that should happen naturally through time tested optimization techniques. Any company that boasts an unbelievable claim should be approached with extreme caution or avoided completely. If it seems way too good to be true, guess what? Move on.

There are some legitimate Search Engine Optimization companies available. If you want to hire one, do the research online. It should be their duty to help you optimize your site for the keywords that you choose…not the other way around. Remember, you are paying them so they should have no problem working with your interests in mind.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that no one can guarantee you a top listing in the search engines. SEO isn’t an exact science and search engine companies are constantly tweaking their criteria for ranking websites. If you want to increase your chances of ranking well, you have to do the right research to find the best keywords that will perform well for your site and learn to use time-tested, basic fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization. It could take a few months for your efforts to pay off, but the reward is high quality traffic that is prized by Internet entrepreneurs everywhere. Good luck to you and your success!

Important Facts About Taxis and Rental Cars in Cuba

For vacationers traveling abroad, if you are in a tourist section, taxis and rental cars are generally very safe. The tropical paradise of Cuba is no different. Taxi and rental car services are most times reliable, however if you find yourself trying to use these services outside of population centers caution needs to be taken. There are nuances to utilizing both taxis and rental cars in Cuba.

Rental cars can be found most commonly in or close to hotels. Other major locations for rental dealerships can be found near drop-off points of cruise ships and at airports. Finding locations from which to rent vehicles can be simple, however finding a reliable service can be a challenge. Situations have occurred in which patrons have had difficulty receiving the same vehicle that they reserved ahead of time. In many cases the rental company will try to give any car available to the renter, not just the one which was preferred.

Another issue which can arise with the rental car system involves traveling with young children. Many vacationers have found that it can be difficult to find a reliable source of children’s seats. It is recommended to bring your own booster seat for the car if it is at all possible.

Beyond these situations, the system of car rental is very good in Cuba. The taxi system works similarly well. The most significant threat can come from unregistered taxis. In many instances the travelers may have to negotiate price, and price negotiations can be tricky. Care should be taken, because the traveler has a significant risk of being ripped off. It is also possible to end up with rather uncomfortable travel situations if one tries too hard to find the more economic rates. However, as mentioned before, these flaws are limited, and easily overcome by the positive aspects of Cuba’s taxi system.

One primary upside of the rental and taxi systems comes as a result of the overall infrastructure of the nation. Cuba has a system of highways that are well paved, at least in relation to other Caribbean countries, and relatively safe for travel. Speed limits are kept well in check allowing for easy travel. Traffic issues can be present in major cities as tourists and citizens crowd to make their way through the streets. While this problem is consistent, the overriding theme in transportation is comparative ease, when compared to other tropical vacation destinations.

Another advantage of using taxis in Cuba comes is the variety of options available. This aspect is especially present in Varadero and Havana. The main alternative to a traditional taxi comes in the form of Coco-taxis. These vehicles are small, three wheeled cabs. These egg shaped vehicles are generally orange or yellow and make basic commutes a unique experience. At first glance they appear slow and insufficient to meet most travel needs, but on the road these cabs move swiftly through the streets. Coco-taxis offer services for a lower price then most taxi companies. The cost is negotiable and paid in advance, and is not a set fare for services.

Other varieties of taxis can be found around Cuba. The most common of these is horse drawn cabs. This rustic means of travel is often accompanied by lanterns after dark, and can provide a very relaxing commute. Many vacationers to Cuba wind up not relying on any transportation service by spending the entirety of their vacation at their resort. Cuba has many modern resorts in which visitors find that they have everything they need in or close by to their hotel.

However, if visitors to Cuba want to soak up the country’s distinct culture and history, they must venture out of the confines of their resort. The taxi and rental car market in Cuba provides a steady service to tourists. All things considered, vacationers can count on these services to get them where they’re going. The variety of ways to get around the tropical island coupled with the overall reliability of the roads makes travelling around Cuba an experience that can be quite rewarding. There are limitations, of course, but these are easily overshadowed by what the Cuban system of rental cars and taxis has to offer.

The Culture About Roads

Road is a wonderful reflection of a place

Roads are a reflection of a place, be it a city, a particular area of a city, a pocket in that area or even a block. Roads mean a lot of things. First of all it means the economic status of the residents. If you have been to the south of several cities in India, they are comparatively posh, are up market with upper-middle class or high-class gentry.

The roads lining their streets are much better in shape. They are maintained every few months especially after the rainy season is over and again sometime after a few months. They are cleaned just every day and traffic markings painted too often. The islands are kept up in right condition too, so are the metallic railings perched on the islands. You will find some horticultural touch to the islands too. They have well maintained traffic signals and have additional traffic police personnel to supervise smooth flow of the traffic.

Cut to another location which is not up market, but fairly good. You will find quite a few features as about a road in an up market area but for their so regular upkeep. Among the missing things could be the green effect created by the plants on the islands or round- about. Then cut to an ordinary middle class area. The level of upkeep plummets. Roads could be uneven. There will be more of patchwork when they are repaired, hence the unevenness. The pavements may not be clean and the road-sides could be accumulating dust which is cleaned after months together.

A lower-middle class area roads scenario will reflect accordingly. Dust welcomes you every time a vehicle passes by you. There will be streams of water flowing out of lanes and houses for want of choked drains which have not been cleaned for ages and hence could no longer be cleaned. Road repair in such pockets is an election issue and a patchwork is possible which may last as long as the campaign for the hustings.

Cut to the Indian road traffic on such roads. Its character changes with its economic identification. The traffic on Bangalore and Chennai will change as much and so will the degree of road safety in India for the latter is a function of driving conditions which in turn is subject to the road conditions.
